Global Fruit is a developing company that is heavily involved in the innovation of apple production in Ontario. This project is the result of years of intensive research and development. In 1998 the Government of Ontario and the Ontario Apple Commission reported that the Ontario apple industry was in steady decline and had an uncertain future.

At this time Global Fruit was formed and became dedicated to rejuvenating the Ontario apple industry, with a goal of producing high quality consumption apples in large quantities to feed the ever growing Greater Toronto Area market. The Ontario apple industry has been in decline over the past few decades, with growers producing far less apples for the fresh market. This has lead to a steep increase in imports of fresh consumption apples for the retail market.

Grocery chains are purchasing foreign apples because they are of higher quality than local Ontario apples. Ontario producers are unable to offer consistent shape, colour or taste. This has become a problem in the Ontario apple industry as many producers have not replanted their orchards and fail to invest in new technologies available to enhance apple production. Global Fruit has the ability to produce large quantities of high quality consumption apples, in an environmentally friendly manner. Within the next 5 years we will have the capacity to drastically reduce the import market, in Ontario. This was made possible by investing heavily in new technologies and management practices that have not been seen in North America. We have built the foundation for a strong future in Ontario, and are looking for potential partners to join us in our goal of rejuvenating the Ontario apple industry.
